The Holiday's Are A Great Time To Get Away!

The holiday's are a great time to get away.  Their also a time when people take road to trips to visit loved ones for the holiday season!  So I'd like to tell you about one of my favorite road trips!  Back in 2000 I went to Myrtle Beach with my mom, well I was only home for a day, when I got the phone call that my cousins were going, and wanted to know if I'd like to go too.  Of course I said yes, but that meant another long drive down!  We started out at 5 am, and packed the van full of toys, clothes, blankets, pillows, snacks, and drinks.  I remember my younger cousins had their own seats, while me and my older cousins shared the bench seat in the back.  We made sure to stop at a gas station for gas, and breakfast before we headed to the highway.  Going on road trips in my family, was the normal, we didn't have the money for plane tickets, and it was a great way to try your patience lol!  We always stopped at interesting sights that we saw along the way, and when you went on a road trip with my aunt and uncle, you always stopped at a Cracker Barrel!  We always made sure to have our disposable cameras on hand so we could take pictures of each other, and the sights we saw along the way!
I also remember some of the fun games we played on the way!  When we went through tunnels we tried to hold our breath and pick up our feet the whole way (which I hardly could ever do, since the tunnels were so long).  We also played the license plate game, were you tried to find a license plate from every state.  I spy was also a big game for us...I remember we would play it forever!  And when we'd get tired of playing games and singing songs (oh yes we sang, but it was usually just whatever was on the radio), we would a surprise from our boxes!  Before we left my grandma would make us boxes, full of surprises!  They usually had happy meal toys, she saved during the year, notebooks, with pencils, pens, and crayons, and other little gadgets!  Road trips were always fun, and I've always loved taking them!  I can't wait to take my family on a great old fashioned road trip like I used to go on!
